Thermal Power Plant Condenser Re-Tube Works

Thermal Power Plant Condenser Re-Tube Works

Condensers are one of the most critical components directly affecting energy production efficiency in thermal power plants. Over time, issues such as corrosion, erosion, clogging, or thermal fatigue reduce tube performance, resulting in decreased system efficiency and increased fuel costs. Therefore, condenser re-tube (re-tubing) operations are essential for ensuring sustainable, safe, and high-efficiency plant operation.

Scope of Condenser Re-Tube Works

Our company performs condenser re-tubing operations in thermal power plants according to international standards with the following steps:

1. Removal of Existing Tubes

  • All corroded, cracked, or low heat-transfer tubes are removed using precision methods.
  • During removal, tube sheets, support plates, and cassette structures are inspected.

2. Condenser Surface Cleaning and Inspection

  • Mechanical and chemical cleaning of tube sheet holes
  • Tube sheet crack tests (NDT: PT, MT, UT, or Eddy Current)
  • Surface roughness and deformation checks

3. Selection and Preparation of New Tubes

Depending on the project, high-durability tubes such as:

  • Titanium, Admiralty Brass, Cu-Ni 90/10 – 70/30, SS316L
    are selected.
  • Tube dimensions are prepared according to ASME and TEMA standards.
  • Pre-production and post-production quality control tests are conducted.

4. Tube Installation and Rolling/Sealing Process

  • Tubes are inserted into tube sheet holes with precise tolerances.
  • Expanded using hydraulic or mechanical rolling methods.
  • TIG welding is applied where additional sealing is required.
  • After installation, hydrotesting is performed to verify pressure integrity.

5. Final Inspections and Commissioning

  • Condenser vacuum test
  • Heat transfer performance measurement
  • Full system operational efficiency testing
  • Reporting and project handover
